A lot of important things are happening in our business. Some affect all suppliers in the plastics industry. Some are issues specific to Flextex, but we believe it’s best to be clear about what’s happening. When you know the picture, you’re in the best possible position to make sound decisions.
The plastic packaging tax
From this April, a tax of £200 per tonne will be levied on plastic packaging materials that do not have at least 30% recycled content. There are more details, of course, and lots of complex definitions, but the tax means that the price of certain plastics we use is increasing.
When you ask us to quote, be sure to specify the type of material you require. We now stock lots of eco-friendly alternative materials. We can help you make the right choices and avoid the extra burden of this new tax.
Tax on orders in the pipeline
Unfortunately, we will have to pay tax on all affected materials from April 1st. This means that jobs already in our system may not escape the levy. You may need to factor in extra costs on top of the original quote.

Current lead times
Right now, lead times are around 5 to 6 weeks. We know this can be inconvenient and are working hard to resolve the issues.
With disrupted global supply chains and working practices, many industries are experiencing problems of this nature. We have been significantly impacted by Covid isolation rules and staffing issues. We are now actively recruiting and creating a new shift to increase our capacity.
We thank you for your patience and continued support while we work through these changes.
And the good news
There is always good news. Despite the challenges and new taxes, we believe we are still one of the most accommodating, flexible and friendly suppliers in the market.
We’re happy to take on smaller volumes and complicated bespoke work that other converters don’t want to tackle. What’s more, we’re busy implementing innovative technology – faster machinery with more capabilities. Our new shift will give us even more ability to serve your needs and the soon to be launched customer portal will keep you fully informed of order progress.
One more good thing: we’re straightforward people who like to talk. If you want to chat about anything that’s happening, we’re here.
